Belmonte and Oaklandvale Schools
Commended By DESE for Performance

The Belmonte Middle School was one of 21 middle schools in the Commonwealth to be Commended by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for its school's performance in "narrowing proficiency gaps" on the FY10 MCAS test results. Belmonte is currently in "restructuring" status and a repeat of its FY10 results on the FY11 MCAS test would label the school as Commendable: Exiting Status.

In addition, the Oaklandvale Elementary School received a Commendation for Exiting NCLB Accountability Status on the FY10 MCAS test results. Oaklandvale had been labeled in "needs improvement" and made Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for both FY09 and FY10.

Staff and students are to be commended for their performance on the MCAS and in closing the achievement gap at their school.
