    A Message from the Superintendent

It may seem a little early, but school closing procedures and information are posted to the District website. The direct link is http://www.saugus.k12.ma.us

I will use the broadcast voice message system with a message to all staff and all student families in the event of delays or school closings. However, technology sometimes fails and human error can never be ruled out. Therefore, check with major media and the District Home Page http://www.saugus.k12.ma.us rather than relying exclusively on a phone message.

This year we also face the potential (albeit remote, I think) of school closings due to the flu pandemic. I will be writing all families about the need to develop a family plan for this possibility. If schools close, it is likely that all day care and recreational programs will also be closed. Children will need appropriate supervision and, under this scenario, many kids would be very ill with flu. This would be a huge challenge to families.

Each school will need to be talking about operating with increased student and staff absences. This is uncharted territory and everyone's ideas about how to plan are needed.

We hope that there will be no pandemic crisis, there MAY not be. However, we need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Please keep up on the evolving "flu story" by monitoring media, sharing your questions and concerns with the school nurse or your health care provider. Get the best information that http://www.saugus.k12.ma.us.

Wishing you health and fair weather,

Richard Langlois
