Technology growth
continues to be a goal for the school . We are
adding two more smartboards. One will be mobile
making it more accessible to the whole school.
One ELMO - document reproduction - has been
added and is the envy of the school.
Our magazine drive this year will be focused
on purchasing more of these machines.
Every classroom has two or more computers -
most have 3 or 4. We have added a wireless netbook
cart with 25 computers. This allows all of our
classes to have all students work on line .
Turning Point Technology has allowed the teachers
to monitor student responses through the use
of responders.
The Lynnhurst
School continues to run three after school sessions
during the year.
We have added several math classes , Play Doh
Creations , Dance , and Homework Clubs
The yearly gym and crafts classes continue to
be popular.
Although every
space is being used in the school , we are encouraged
that our largest classes are 26 and 27 in the
fifth grade and then 24 and 24 in grade three.
We are
down from the close to 30 member classes that
we had at several grade levels. We are creative
in finding spots for our specialists to work
with the students.
The addition
of two full day kindergartens has been very
exciting for the entire school community. After
much work in the summer , these programs opened
up full speed ahead. The community response
has been positive and we look forward to measuring
the growth we hope to see as these children
enter first grade.
After a busy
summer of curriculum planning , the elementary
school staff received Curriculum Maps. Essential
questions can be seen posted in every classroom
. These help the children to focus and directs
the teachers' lessons. The same material is
being taught from one school to another. These
will always be a work in progress. New math
curriculum was introduced in grades 4 and 5.
Art , music
, and gym are taught on a weekly basis by specialists.
A needed
revival that we see adds to time for creativity
, physical education , health education , and
music. This allows exposure of fine arts to
all of our students. Students who express themselves
differently find a path within these three areas.
The benefits are immeasurable.
In our extra
curricular schedule , we have added a school
safety patrol , a Garden Club , and a debate
team. When we see a student having an interest
or one who needs a place to shine , we attempt
to address that need.
We have an active
PTO that works for the betterment of the school.
They meet once a month and support our endeavors
throughout the year.
With the advancement
of inclusion and bringing students back to their
neighborhood schools , we have added one paraprofessional
to our staff. As we look ahead , we can see
that either smaller classes or additional trained
paraprofessionals will be needed to help us
address the needs of all of our children.
Professional
Development has addressed the goals set forward
by the superintendent. The staff of the Lynnhurst
School take advantage of these offerings . We
hope that more funds will be allocated in this
area.
All aspect of
life at the Lynnhurst School is important. We
are constantly trying to change and fine tune
our school. The bottom line is where are we
academically . This year we met AYP in both
Math and ELA. The bar has been raised and we
join the presidential challenge of Race to the
Top.
