History of Waybright The Waybright Elementary School was built on what was known as "Donkey Hill." The area was called "Donkey Hill" because of the fact that a farmer who once lived here who raised donkeys.

Construction began on the Waybright in 1963 when the old Saugus Junior High burned and plans had to be chaned for housing all the elementary students. The plans were approved and the town got 50% reimbursement from the state for construction.

The building was completed and opened in 1965. The school was named after Douglas Waybright who was a great football player for Saugus High School and a prominent citizen of Saugus. He rounded out his athletic abilites by playing basketball, running track, and as a memeber of the varsity golf team.

Douglas graduated from Notre Dame, served with the military and returned to Saugus to marry and raise a family. He died suddenly at the age of 38 in 1965. We are proud to have his picture hang in our hall and his name on our school.
