This course is designed for students who have not passed English 11, or who are convinced that they can't learn a foreign language. Our primary focus is on in-class conversation, using a method of instruction that is physical, fun, and effective. Starting from our first meeting, students will be surprised at how much Spanish they are able to quickly and easily understand. Students earning a passing grade in this half-year course will automatically qualify to enroll in Spanish 1.

This Course is designed to develop student proficiency in speaking, llistening, reading, and wrighting. It also aims to increase the students' knowledge and appreciationof the diverse cultures of the countries of their target language. This emphasis is on communication. A variety of activities promote learning and application of Spanish. Students in this course are expected to perform at an average skill level and at an average pace.

Prerequisites: Students must be enrolled in English 13 or higher, have demonstrated superior ability in English Language Art classes, and have earned a minimum grade of 90 in Middle-School English classes.
This course is designed to develop student proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Spanish, and to increase students' knowledge and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Emphasizing communication, the course employs a variety of activites to promote learning and application of the target language. The class pace is accelerated and a higher-level of student skill development is expected.

Spanish 2 provides a brief review of the communicative functions aquired in Spanish 1. New speech patterns, vocabulary, and controlled conversational situations will be introduced in order to continue to work toward the goal of acquiring proficiency and fluency skils in Spanish. The pace and skill level develpopment for this course is average.

Prerequisites: 85 in Spanish and with a teacher recommendation indicating student can do accelerated work.
This ciyrse continues to build on the communicative skills in development in level 1. New vocabulary, idioms, tenses, ans speech patterns will be introduced: including " independent " usage and sentence development that increases throughout the year. The pace is accelerated and higher-level student skill development is expected.

The third year provides a systematic review of all communicative functions. There will be more advanced composition, research, conversation, and training in aural and oral composition. ( Literature introduced will include short stories by Spanish authors since the Spanish Civil War and short stories by Soabusg American authors.) There will be continued development of the four language skills.

Prerequisites: 85 or better in Spanish 2H or 90 and teacher recommendation in Spanish 2
This level provides a thorough review of content development in level 2H with a continued development of the four language skills. There will be extensive addtion of new vocabulary and speech patterns. Emphasis is placed on reading for contentand communication of ideas in independently developed segment ( composition, original sentences using new materials, etc. ). The pace is accelerated requiring higher student skill development.

Spanish 4 will allow for further development in the four language skills. Background material will include the study of biography, culture, politics, economics, and literature. Conducted in Spanish, topics in reading will also include aspects of life as: love, death, patriotism, adventure, conflicts, and legends.

This course is accelerated to prepare he students for Spanish 5H and the AP exam. The methods used are a combination of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and testing materials in Spanish aimed at promoting proficiency and fluency in the target language.

Prerequisites: 85 or better in Spanish 4H
This course provides a more in-depth development of skills in five specific areas of the target language: conversation, composition, grammer, history, and literature. There will be greater emphasis on student creativity and self-expression in Spanish. The students will be expected to reach the following objectives:
a) ability to understand spoken Spanish in various contexts in both written and oral discourses;
b) development of a Spanish vocabulary sufficiently ample for reading newspapers and magazines articles, literary texts, and other non-technical writings without dependence on a dictionary;
c) ability to express oneself in Spanish both in speech and in writing, coherently, resourcefully, and with reasonable fluency and accurancy. Course content can reflect intellectual interests shared by the students and teacher. Materials might well include audio and video recordings, films, newspapers, and magazines.
d) students taking the AP Spanish course will have additional readings as well as more depth comprehensive work in preparation for AP examination.
This course seeks to develop language skills that can be used in various activitiesand disciplines rather then to cover any specific body subject matter. Extensive training in the organization and writing of compositions will be included.
