Cashmere is a soft fabric made from the wool growing beneath the outer hair of the Cashmere goat. Since these goats live in the high, dry plateaus that stretch from northern China into Mongolia, in order for these goats to survive, they need to have coarse outer hair to repels the weather. Beneath this external coat is a much finer fiber which insulates them from the bitter cold. This fiber is called cashmere.
