TURTLES

Turtles are cold blooded reptiles. They can be found on land and water. Many of them are declining in numbers due to water polution and the destruction of swamps and rivers. Many kinds of turtles are sold as pets. This is also a problem to the endangerment of turtles. Sea turtles and all other turtles lay eggs, but sea turtles swim to shore once a year during spring or summer time. After the babies hatch, there are many dangers that could stop them from getting to the water in time. There are badgers who dig up the eggs for food and certain. birds fly down and pick up a turtle for a quick meal. Sometimes even crocodiles or alligators will attack them. Humans have always interfered with the turtles. Some killed them for food or to capture. Others killed then skinned for their leathery skin. Thats why there are now strict endangerment laws mainly for poachers to protect the turtles so they can breed peacefully.
