Wall Street was founded and created around the year 1653. At first, it was set up to defend the nation's economy, but then was used as commerce for the area.
Dutch settlers, who were rivals with Native Americans, allied with the British to build a 12-foot stockade fence. The location where this fence was built is now the center of financial activity within the world. In 1685, the British tore down the fence and built a street. They called it Wall Street.
