Personal Life

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California. He has an older sister, Sandra, an older brother, Larry, and a younger brother, Jim. Tom Hanks is a fourth cousin, four generations removed from Abraham Lincoln.

He went to John Swett Elementary School and Skyline High School, both in Oakland, California. Later he attended Chabot College in Hayward, California, and then went California State Univeristy in Sacramento, California.

He married Samantha Lewes on January 24, 1978. They divorced on March 19, 1987. They had two children. Then he met Rita Wilson on the set of Volunteers. They have been married since April 30, 1988. They, too, have two children.
