The Jaguar is a carnivorous animal and will tend to eat a variety of wild creatures. These include deer, monkeys, tapirs, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. If kept in a zoo, they can be trained to eat cat food prepared by trainers. Jaguars tend to only eat the food located in their territories.
Food Gathering: Jaguars are relatively nocturnal and do most of there hunting during dawn and dusk. They will mostly hunt on the ground, but since they are good at climbing, they may also ambush prey form above. When the prey is big, the jaguar will bite the back of the head with its powerful teeth. They are the only cats who do this, for others bite at the neck. Unusually for a cat, Jaguars enjoy water and will even chase prey through water when hunting.
